Discriminated Against Despite their Excellence

This movie is based on real events. It tells the story of three African-American women, scientists who worked at NASA in the 1960s (in the middle of the space front of the Soviet Union) and at the time of the civil rights struggle of American blacks.

The United States were looking for bright minds, talented people to work as “human computers”, because there were no digital computers that could exactly calculate the trajectories of a rocket, so they needed very bright brains for quick, advanced calculations.

Two mathematicians and an engineer were the chosen ones for this work and to get the ambitious project of putting the astronaut John Gleen into orbit.

The names of these three women were silenced until now. Their work remained hidden, they remained segregated and received a lower salary than their white counterparts, but whose work was indispensable for the advances in space travel.

This film is based on the book by Margot Lee Shetterly, whose father worked at NASA and became interested in and documenting the subject.
